Achievements vs. Responsibilities
Responsibilities describe what you were supposed to do. Achievements describe what you actually accomplished. Recruiters want to see results, not job descriptions.
Responsibility: "Managed social media accounts"
Achievement: "Grew Instagram following from 5K to 50K in 8 months, generating 200+ qualified leads per month"
How to Quantify Achievements
- Revenue generated or costs saved (dollar amounts)
- Percentage improvements (efficiency, growth, reduction)
- Volume metrics (users served, projects completed, reports delivered)
- Time saved or deadlines met/beat
- Awards won or rankings achieved
Finding Your Achievements
- Review performance reviews and feedback
- Think about problems you solved and their impact
- Consider what you did differently from others in the same role
- Ask former colleagues about your notable contributions
